Fishan is a remarkable elephant bull who captured the hearts of many after surviving a fractured leg. 

The incident occurred when Fishan, a resident of Tsavo East National Park in Kenya, was attacked by poachers who were targeting elephants for their tusks.

Despite sustaining a serious injury, Fishan refused to give up. He continued to move around the park, using his three legs to graze and browse. However, his condition was deteriorating, and he needed medical attention.

Thankfully, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) came to Fishan’s rescue. They launched an operation to capture him and transport him to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s (DSWT) elephant orphanage in Nairobi. The DSWT has a team of experts who specialize in providing medical care and rehabilitation for injured elephants.

Fishan’s injury was assessed, and he was found to have a fractured femur. This type of injury is particularly challenging to treat in elephants, as their leg bones are massive and weigh several hundred pounds. Despite the odds, the DSWT team was determined to save Fishan’s life.

The team used a sling to support Fishan’s leg and keep it in place while it healed. They also gave him antibiotics to prevent infection and provided him with a nutritious diet to aid his recovery. Fishan was closely monitored throughout his rehabilitation process, and he showed remarkable progress.

After several months of treatment and rehabilitation, Fishan was able to stand on his own again. He regained his strength and was able to move around with ease. The DSWT team decided it was time to release him back into the wild.

Fishan was transported back to Tsavo East National Park, where he was released into a protected area. The release was a success, and Fishan quickly adapted to his new environment. He now roams freely with his herd and continues to thrive.
